Know what this is?

Kinja'd!!!

Of course you do. It's an "Azusa Fun Kart", and apparently it's a popular base model. I'm what you'd call a go-kart noob, I don't know much about them, but I'm a young person with a summer ahead of me and I'd like something to goof around on (I am easily amused). Unfortunately, most kits like these sell for over $500, without engine.

Does anyone know if there are any similar, comparable kits that sell for less? And do these types of chassis hold up when given engines more powerful than the stock 6.5 HP?

Craigski's list? j/k... for that kind of money, you might just be able to draw up some plans, but some steel tubing, and head to a friendly welding shop. Also, I checked those out online, and it seems that they are more designed for a shorter rider. You may want to take some seated measurements of yourself to make sure you find on that fits.

I'd like to practice my (very limited) welding on it, so although I have very limited experience I'm not averse to modification.

The idea with this kart was to move the seat back somehow, and then stick the engine from one of these in.

or you could take the yellow car.... Attack it with a saws all, and reinforce whats left by tacking on a couple steel bars. If you were aggressive enough you could probably knock her down to 500lbs

Tempting, but 500 lbs is still a little much for me ;)

also, you wouldn't need performance springs/shocks because the current suspensior is setup for a much heavier car!

I really have a hankering to buy the engine, the seat and the steering, then build the rest of out aluminum sheet, extrusion and epoxy Lotus style. I have no idea if it would be lighter/stronger or not, but damn, that would be cool.
